The St. Joseph Junior High Spelling Bee was held January 5 to determine the two finalists who'd be eligible to participate in the Faulkner County Spelling Bee on February 1 at Greenbrier High School.
A dozen 7th and 8th graders took part in the Bee under the direction of English teacher Alicia Yrle. After 17 rounds of competition 8th graders Anna Kate Pasierb and Brileigh Choate were named the winners. After Brileigh misspelled "irreverent" Anna Kate won 1st Place by correctly spelling "perjure." Eighth grader Seth Mathis finished in 3rd Place. He'll serve as the alternate to the County Bee should either of the finalists be unavailable.
Certificates were awarded to each winner along with Amazon gift cards provided by the St. Joseph Endowment Herman and Bonnie Moix and Class of 1967 Endowed Spelling Bee Fund.
